ISO 3506-1 classes apply to thread diameters up to M39 for class 50 and to M24 for classes 70 and 80 unless the standard's larger-diameter tables are invoked; ASTM A193 Class 2 properties fall with diameter above 19 mm. The class 50 condition is annealed, 70 is cold worked and 80 is high-strength cold worked; Class 1 is carbide solution treated and Class 2 is solution treated and strain hardened.

Rolled thread against cut thread

Laxcon threads by rolling: the bar is passed between dies that displace metal into the thread form rather than cutting it away, so the grain follows the flank and root, the root is cold-worked and smooth, and the fatigue strength of the finished thread is higher than that of a cut thread of the same size. The thread form is the unified inch profile of ASME B1.1 to the 2A external class, or the metric M profile of ASME B1.13M, from M6 to M45 (1/4 to 1-3/4 inch), fully threaded, in lengths to 6 metres.

A 316 bar (A4 or B8M) is specified over a 304 bar (A2 or B8) where the fastener sees chlorides, coastal air or process chemicals; both are non-magnetic and both are supplied in the strength class the joint design calls for.
