A seamless tube is pierced and drawn from a solid hollow, so it has no longitudinal weld, a uniform wall around the circumference and no heat-affected zone; it is the form the boiler, superheater and heat-exchanger specifications (ASTM A213, EN 10216-5) require and the form a pressure part is designed on without a joint factor. A welded tube is rolled from strip and seam-welded, is cheaper and is supplied to larger diameters, and is the usual choice for structural, architectural and low-pressure process work. The programme on this page is seamless: heat-exchanger, boiler and line tube from 15.88 to 60.3 mm outside diameter, and the mother hollows at 54, 65 and 76 mm from which those sizes are drawn.

Phase 1 of the seamless programme covers outside diameters from 15.88 mm to 60.3 mm and wall thicknesses from 1.24 mm to 6 mm for straight-length heat-exchanger tubes. Boiler and line-pipe limits are listed separately in the table.
Published grades for seamless pipe and tube include 304L, 304H, 316L, 316H, 316Ti, 317L, 321, 321H, 347H and duplex grades, depending on the product route.
The seamless programme references ASTM A213, ASTM A789, ASTM A269, ASTM A790, ASME SA213, ASME SA789, ASME SA312 and EN 10216-5. The applicable specification depends on whether the order is for heat-exchanger tube, boiler tube or line pipe.
Laxcon packs stainless steel seamless pipe, tube and mother hollow in standard bundles of 500 to 1,000 kg with HDPE or LDPE wrapping and two lifting slings. ISPM 15 wooden boxes and fibre-tube packing are available, and every bundle is marked with heat number, grade, size, and net and gross weight.
